There’s a rugged resourcefulness to the American West that I’ve always admired—the ability to find beauty in the unexpected. I painted this majestic bull elk directly onto the cardboard case of a Black Butte Porter 6-pack, letting the iconic silhouette of the Deschutes mountain range serve as a natural backdrop for his bugle.
 
The contrast between the rough, familiar textures of the packaging and the fine detail of the oil-painted elk creates a bridge between our modern Western culture and the wild energy of the high country. It’s a piece that honors the "pints and peaks" lifestyle and the animals that truly own these mountains. To complete the look, I’ve housed this piece in a custom, handmade wood frame built right here in my studio.
