Finding Stillness: The Story of "Sunday Morning"

There is a sacred kind of quiet that you can only find in the middle of a creek, horseback, on a Sunday morning. It’s the time when the rest of the world seems to pause, and the only sounds are the rhythmic splash of water against stones and the steady breathing of your horse.

I painted Sunday Morning (20x24, Acrylic) in early 2024 to capture that specific frequency of peace. In the West, our "church" isn't always found inside four walls—often, it’s found in the golden light filtering through the brush and the reflection of a clear sky in a slow-moving stream.

This piece was about more than just the technical challenge of painting water and light; it was about the connection. You can see it in the way the horse lowers its head to the water and the rider sits deep and relaxed in the saddle. It’s a moment of total trust and total presence.

In a world that is constantly moving and often uncertain, Sunday Morning is my reminder to seek out the places that ground us. It’s a tribute to the "heartbeat of the prairie" and the steady strength we find when we simply stop and listen.

This original work is looking for its forever home—a place where it can bring a sense of calm and clarity to the room every single day.
