Introducing the Guardians of the Range Series

There is a weight to a longhorn that you don’t just see—you feel. It’s a combination of rugged grit, ancient history, and a quiet, watchful authority. This presence is what inspired my latest three-piece series, "Guardians of the Range."

I wanted to capture these animals not just as livestock, but as sentinels of the West. Each 11x14 oil and acrylic original in this set offers a different window into that spirit:

  • Sunset Sentinel: Captures that bold, heavy stillness right before the sun drops, where the light hits the coat and horns with a golden intensity.

  • The Watchman: A study in connection. This piece focuses on that "eye-to-eye" moment where the bull stands his ground, reminding us that we are being watched just as much as we are watching.

  • Storm's Horizon: Painted from a striking lower perspective, this piece highlights the grandeur of the horns reaching toward the sky as the bull surveys the high plains horizon.

I have always felt that some stories are too big for a single canvas. These three were created to stand together—a "trinity" of strength and patience. To complete the series, I handcrafted each wood frame in my shop to ensure the grit of the subject is mirrored in the presentation.

These three originals are currently available as a set. They represent the heart of what I paint for: the soul of the land and the animals that guard it.
