THE SOUL OF THE WORK: SORT 'EM OUT

There is a specific kind of harmony required to move a herd of cattle across the ranch. It’s a dance of non-verbal cues, shared focus, and an absolute reliance on the animal beneath you. In the Western world, we call it the "partnership."
When I painted "Sort 'em Out" back in 2022, I wanted to capture the pure joy found in that honest labor. As a self-taught realist, this piece was a significant milestone for me—a moment where I began to truly understand how to translate the grit and dust of a working ranch onto the canvas.
[THE PHILOSOPHY] At Ranchland Reflections, my work is rooted in heart/brain coherence. It is the state where our internal rhythm aligns with the world around us. In this painting, you see that alignment in action: the cowboy’s posture, the horse’s intense focus, and the shifting weight of the cattle. To get through a job like this safely and effectively, man and animal must move as one.
[THE ARTISTRY] This 16x20 piece is a mixed media work, utilizing both the vibrancy of acrylics and the rich, traditional depth of oil paints. It is housed in a custom, handmade wood frame created right here in my studio to match the rugged integrity of the scene.
"Sort 'em Out" isn't just a depiction of ranch life; it’s a tribute to the deep bonds and teamwork that keep the heritage of the West alive.
